So here I am developing my book around Fisheries. The storyline is there, illustrations are taking form and my mind is thinking about how the characters can play with other global hot topics, with climate, gender, health, etc. I needed to get the bigger picture of all this in my head of how I could link the books up.
Then, whilst working on a United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) exhibition, and with all the elements staring at me, the penny dropped leading to a popcorn of ideas that just invaded my head. I will use the UN SDG titles, that way it will be aligned with the UN's work already in process, I can have 17 books to plan out instead of a sporadic 4 or 5. All of the UN SDGs are important and merit the same attention to detail.
I now have a project with a plan of action to inform children, and their parents, of SDG 1-17 and initiate some interesting conversations.
Fisheries became SDG 14 "Life Below Water, a fishy tale".
